PG&E Utility Bill Redesign
Illustrator
In this project I identified six critical pieces of information that should be clearly and concisely communicated in the utility bill. In order of importance to the user these are: amount due, due date, usage, how to pay and where to go for questions.
My design attempted to implement a variety of effective principles of visual design. Some principles that were particularly important to our process were showing comparisons, using plain language, and combining variables to show causality.

The relationship between usage and amount due is a common area of confusion for the user which complicate efforts to minimize both costs and usage. For this reason I expanded usage to include an itemized breakdown, efficiency in comparison to neighbors, ways to save as well as past usage and weather conditions.
